In most cases, the issue is simple. The payment provider does not support Apple Pay, SSL is not active, or the store owner has not checked the right wallet setting yet.

This tutorial is for new store owners who want the fastest method to activate Apple Pay on Shopify without getting lost in payment settings. 

I’ll show you what you need before setup, how to activate Apple Pay for Shopify, and how to add it to the product pages.

Does Shopify accept Apple Pay?

Yes. Shopify does accept Apple Pay. It works as an accelerated checkout option when your store uses a supported credit card payment provider. 

Shopify Payments is the simplest setup for merchants because Apple Pay is supported through it. Also, note that you can use accelerated checkouts only in supported countries using Shopify Payments.

Use a payment provider that supports Apple Pay

This is the first thing I check. You can follow every setup step correctly, but if your payment provider does not support Apple Pay, the option will not work the way you expect. 

Apple Pay works through a credit card payment provider that supports it. That is why I confirm which provider they are using before they do anything else.

Make sure SSL is active on your store domain

Your store must have SSL activated on its domain before Apple Pay can work. 

In practical terms, this means your domain setup should be proper before you start testing Apple Pay. When I help new stores, I like to make sure the domain is connected properly first.

Your Customers need a compatible Apple device and Safari

This part often gets missed during testing. Customers need to use Safari on a device that supports Apple Pay.

So when I test Apple Pay, I test it in the right environment first. That gives a much clearer picture of whether the setup is correct or whether the issue is only with the device or the browser.

Subscription stores need extra conditions

Apple Pay for subscription services has extra requirements. You must use Shopify Payments, and customers need to pay with a Mastercard or Visa card. This is one of those details that can save a lot of confusion later. 

How to add Apple Pay to Shopify: Step by Step

Step 1: Go to the Payment section

From your Shopify admin, open Settings and then click Payments. 

Step 2. Open your card payment provider settings

Inside the Shopify Payments section, go to the section for your credit card payment provider and click Manage.

Note: If Shopify Payments is not fully set up, you cannot activate Apple Pay.

Step 3. Open your wallets section

Now, in the Advanced settings section, click Manage again. Here you will find the Wallets section. Click Activate for Apple Pay.

Click Save to activate Apple Pay for Shopify

Step 1: Enable the accelerated checkout button in your theme 

Once Apple Pay is activated, go to Online Store > Themes in your Shopify admin.

Step 3: Navigate to the Buy buttons block

Find the Buy buttons block in the product section and make sure the accelerated checkout buttons are enabled.
